Akzar ($4.40) has returned to racing in typically competitive form this season and has maintained position on the top line of 2015 Mornington Cup betting ahead of Entirely Platinum and Index Linked; currently sharing the second line at generous $6 odds with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will Akzar justify favouritism and win the 2015 Mornington Cup or will one of his classy rivals hit the line in the clear?

1st

Big Memory ($11)

A standout performer over the 2014 Spring Carnival, Big Memory has returned to racing in largely competitive form this season and is a leading chance for success in the 2015 Mornington Cup. Winning the talent-rich Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) on October 11th and progressing to minor place finishes in each of the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) and Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m), the Duke Of Marmalade gelding ran fourth in the Group 3 Carlyon Cup (1600m) first-up this time and third in the Listed Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m), but was luckless in running in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) last time out. Sure to appreciate a step-up in distance and step back in class, Big Memory will need some luck in running this weekend but is a great chance of success.

2nd

Like A Carousel ($15)

Like A Carousel is a proven performer in regional Cups races, has been allocated the ideal barrier 5 and will carry just 55.5kgs in the 2015 Mornington Cup, and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current odds as a result. Securing two wins and a further nine minor place finishes through his 25 career starts to date, the Helike gelding won the Listed Harry White Classic (2400m) early in his spring preparation; progressing to minor place finishes in each of the Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) and Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) most notably. While only managing eighth in the Mornington Cup Prelude first-up this time, Like A Carousel is sure to have taken valuable condition from the competitive hit-out.

3rd

Renew ($16)

Renew stamped his claims as a serious staying prospect upon debuting in Australia over spring and is sure to perform well in the 2015 Mornington Cup. Taking out the Sandown Cup in impressive fashion in spring, the Dansili gelding ran sixth in the Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) on February 20th; progressing to third in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) last time out. Sure to relish a step-back in distance, trainer Archie Alexander has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by the five-year-old in work over the last fortnight.
