The Gold Trail will make his Australian debut in the feature race and is currently the clear $2.50 favourite in 2017 Mornington Cup betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Boom Time and Dark Eyes; currently sharing the second line at $8.50 odds.

Will The Gold Trail justify favouritism and win the Ladbrokes Mornington Cup, or will one of his rivals post an upset?

Goldstream ($13)

Goldstream has returned to racing in smart form this time and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current $13 Ladbrokes Mornington Cup odds. A dominant winner of the 2015 Italian Derby (2213m), Goldstream has taken a few seasons to find his feet since arriving in Australia, but has registered terrific condition through his two most recent starts. Posting his first Australian win in the talent-rich Bitalli Handicap (2000m) on January 28th, the Martino Alonso gelding placed second in the Listed Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m) and appears as though he is ready to step up in trip on Saturday.

The Gold Trail ($2.50)

The Gold Trail has been set for a first-up assault on the Mornington Cup, with a view towards gaining the ballot-free entry into the Caulfield Cup that is allocated to the race winner. The Gold Trail returned to racing at Meydan on Australia Day and delivered a smart field, including subsequent stakes winner Prize Money a comfortable defeat in the Aabar Properties Plate (2410m). The Gold Trail has reportedly taken well to his time in quarantine, is drawn ideally in barrier 6 and will be partnered by Craig Williams in the Ladbrokes Mornington Cup.

Big Memory ($15)

Big Memory is a proven performer at the course, distance and conditions of the Ladbrokes Mornington Cup, carries winning form into the race and is undoubtedly over the odds at his current quote. Having finished a close second in each of the two most recent editions of the feature race on the Peninsula, the Duke Of Marmalade gelding produced an impressive performance to lead from start to finish in the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) last time out and is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from the run.
